Where are we?
We are easy to find – we have a huge doorway directly inside Lime Street railway station concourse. We have doors on Lime Street, directly opposite St Georges Hall, and in Nelson Street, directly next door to the Empire Theatre.
How do you get there?
Dead easy; we are on the main street into town from the north.
We are about 200 yards north of the very centre of the city’s shopping heart.

A bit about the outlet
Where do we start!! We are reputedly the largest licensed premises on Merseyside. We occupy half of the ground floor of the former North Western Hotel. This building is exceptionally grand and used to be the best hotel of the London & North Western Railway. It had lain totally derelict for many years before we took it on.
We have carried out a massive renovation of the premises and it is absolutely fabulous. Renovation is to a very high standard, as it is a grade 2 listed building.
The outlet comprises 4 bars, with variable closing times:
- the Grand Hall is a large room with elegant bar servery and a stage with in-built sound system for performers (this is where live acts play). Virtually all the wall panelling is original 1840s.
- Studio 58 is a large, modern bar, very stylish with lots of brushed steel and light wood furniture. Elegant, airy atmosphere. (no smoking);
  
- Up the stairs from Studio 58 is the Loft on a new mezzanine floor, over-looking Studio 58. It is in the same style and has a fantastic glass-structured bar servery; you have to see it to get a proper idea of its beauty; . (no smoking);
- The Display Bar is a veritable railway artefacts and, to a lesser extent, advertising antiques ‘museum’. (No smoking);

Monday to Thursday 12.00 – 11.00 pm
Friday and Saturday 12.00 – 1.00 am
Sunday 12.00 – 11.00 pm
Our licence allows us to stay open till 1 am every night except Sunday when we can stay open till midnight. On special events, we stay open later than normal.

Having just returned from a trip to Liverpool primarily to watch Watford
play Liverpool - but also to work our way through the good beer guide -
and see the City of course - which was wonderful!
We were intrigued to see why the Head of Steam was no longer recommendedby CAMRA. Following our visit we wanted to make you aware of the hospitality
and friendliness we received not only from Rob McNeill but all of his staff.
Our stay was certainly one to remember and worthwhile as we will be re-nominating the Head of Steam at Liverpool as an entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 2006.
